AUTHOR
David Ewing’s first book, The Cup and The Pipe is out now.
This book reframes the Christian life as a Spirit-led rhythm: the cup first (abide, heal, be filled) and then the pipe (obey, serve, let His life flow). When we reverse the order, ministry turns into burnout. When we keep the rhythm, our strength and clarity of purpose will return.
Through raw and vivid stories, historical analogy, and simple practices, you’ll see how faith paired with obedience moves you into sustainable servant stewardship.
Your days will be marked by deeper gratitude, steadier peace, fuller joy, and love that outlasts the trials.
You’ll learn to carry God-assigned weight with renewed strength and excitement to partner with Him.
You’ll be strengthened to move with holy weight. Operating in grace to influence more people with less strain, and to live in a way that truly matters. To honor Him. To please Him. The rhythm of cup and pipe will set you free.
For the leader, parent, pastor, or the one serving on a ministry team who’s tired of being tired, this book is an invitation to return to the cup, flow as the pipe, and rediscover the joy of being a vessel. You are formed for both stillness and movement, intimacy and impact.
Perfect for readers of John Mark Comer, Annie Dillard, A.W. Tozer, and Ruth Haley Barton, The Cup and The Pipe aren’t merely ideas; they’re the spiritual nervous system connecting wonder (Dillard), awe (Tozer), contemplation (Barton), and formation (Comer). It’s for those who sense that doing more for God is not the same as being with Him. Simply being in His presence always benefits one who is a faithful steward.
The Cup and The Pipe is available on Kindle and as a paperback. Audio book coming soon.
“David Ewing has struck oil with this essential book on centering one’s life on Heaven’s calling. God rarely calls us when it’s convenient, let alone to small, minuscule projects. The purposes of God are all-encompassing and require no less than our everything.
Sadly, there have been many books written on how to “manage” this, but the casualties have been great. We hear of the burnouts, the breakdowns, and sadly, even that they “won their city, but lost their marriage and family.”
In this book, David brings divine revelation. He reveals the rhythms of life that enable the sacred act of being in God’s presence and doing what He’s commanded. They coexist side by side, allowing both to flourish!
This book is a “must read” for anyone desiring to be mightily used of God and not lose their identity in Heavenly pursuits.”

YOU ARE WELCOME
Thank you for being here.
This book isn’t for everyone.
Only for those hungry for Him, or ready to be.
These pages are my obedience. They were constructed late nights and early mornings, with honest edits that came from waiting on Him. Worth it.
I sat on this for nearly eight years—face down in holes I dug, trying to rescue myself by strength instead of surrender. You’ll witness that pain on the page. And still, I am learning. I am being refined. I’ve tasted sweetness made sweeter by the sour. Even in the lows, surrender is glory.
This isn’t an attempt to rewrite Scripture’s cup metaphors. The language may sound familiar, but my aim is simply to reframe how you see and live this Christian life.
I’ve rewritten the same line twenty different ways, questioning if it was too harsh for your palate or too soft to prick a response. You may find faults aplenty, but there is no forgery here. No fake. No fast talk. No forced opinions. Only what was given and wrestled through.
Here’s what I know: He wants to be with us so we become like Him. This is one man’s attempt to walk that rhythm—how He was filled, how He flowed.
A cup for me. A pipe to you.
All from Him, for Him.
My prayer is not that these words impress you, but that they impress Him upon you.
“He must become greater; I must become less.”
— John 3:30

REVIEWS
“The Cup and the Pipe by David Ewing is a simple but powerful reminder about staying filled spiritually so you can pour into others without running dry. David’s wisdom, deep care for others, and heart flow through every page, making it an easy yet deeply meaningful read about finding balance between being refreshed and serving others.”

“David brings a new level of clarity to how God has designed us to be completely filled by Him in order to serve from that connection to Him. No more striving. No more self-made servants. No more burnout. Instead, a seemingly effortless flow as we serve because our heart posture is focused on Him and operating within and out of His presence.
If you have felt burned out, overwhelmed, or worn down by serving, I encourage you to read this book, process the questions at the ends of each chapter, and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal a new perspective of connection to THE SOURCE in order to be filled yourself and to flow to others. When the source is truly and fully God, we will not grow weary!
This book will encourage you and challenge you to connect with your loving Father in a deeper way and as a result, be available to be used by Him in a mighty way!
The words on each page are easy to follow and digest, so grab one for yourself and those you serve alongside! It will be transformational!”

“There is a trend going around right now called ‘deconstructing Christianity,’ when in reality it’s criticism & demolition of the church. David’s book brilliantly & gently puts the focus back on you, helping you to identify your own broken mindsets, wounds & barriers that keeping you from the relationship you want with Christ. It’s poetic, emotional, healing, as well as practical & direct. The Cup & The Pipe puts things back into perspective, & in healthy priority so that we can be powerful, whole believers, experience the depth that God has for us as His children. As well as effective enough to build our churches, not tear them down.
I 100% recommend this book to anyone learning how to be in the secret place, wanting more from their time with Jesus, & wanting to know more on how to navigate serving in the church body.”
